I have some skill with horses, and I can use my skill to teach others about horses: how to be around them, how to care for them, how to ride and how to appreciate what a horse can be to a person.
I’ve seen plenty of youth changed by being around horses. Learning how to work with a horse changes the way you work with people.
There are a boatload of my students that could use a horse in their life to learn what it is to be responsible, to learn how you care for another living creature, to learn respect, to learn confidence and balance and how you earn respect.
To learn patience, humility, kindness, how to reward a job well done and how to discipline with firmness but not cruelty. To learn to be relied on for work that must be done at certain times and in certain ways no
matter how tired you are and no matter how much don’t want to do it. Horses have a lot to give and teach and I think they should be required in school.
