There have been so many hard lessons for me to learn:
I’ve learned not to judge by outward appearance; the kindest, gentlest soul can be housed in the roughest exterior. I’ve learned that it’s easier to face conflict and trial if you aren’t alone, so stick together.
I’ve learned that treating others the way you want to be treated doesn’t mean that others will treat you that way; people can be mean and obnoxious. So you pray and move on as best you can.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that people will surprise you, standing up in those terrible dark moments to walk beside you and taking your hand to let you know that while the path is fraught with peril, they are there with you and will see you through and back into the light.
